The Mathematics Department strives to …

  • … provide our students with a sound foundation in Mathematical concepts and skills necessary for problem solving as well as for further study in the subject or in mathematics related subjects.
  • … develop in our students a positive attitude towards mathematics, including confidence, enjoyment and perseverance.
  • … promote a culture of continuous improvement and learning among the mathematics teachers and students.

Differentiated Approach

We look into the different learning abilities of our students by tailoring our programmes according to their needs. We collaborate, share teaching ideas and resources with one another and explore new teaching strategies, especially learner-centric teaching approaches to help our students learn better.

For the weak students, we provide them with remedial programmes, both during term time and the school vacation. Our average students are involved in a peer tutoring programme in which they are being tutored by their peers who are good in Mathematics.

We stretch our brighter mathematics students by providing them with training for the Singapore Mathematical Olympiads. We also encourage our Secondary 3 Express students to take part in the Australian Mathematics Competition and our Secondary 2 Express students to take part in the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (Mathematics).

As part of our objective to increase ownership of learning and promote active learning, mathematics students will use the interactive on-line mathematics laboratories, HeyMath! and Teaching Management System, to further explore mathematics concepts taught and to test new ones.
