Direct School Admission 2008 (Academic)




APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY

Our selection panel seeks to identify students with a high level of achievement in Mathematics, Science, English Language and Mother Tongue to participate in the Olson Scholars Programme. Under this programme, students will undergo a rigorous academic curriculum which is experimental in approach and with opportunities to do independent work.

They will also be given the opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom through research attachment with higher institutes of learning like Universities, Polytechnics and with the school’s strategic partners in industry. Students can also participate in Twinning Programmes and research collaboration with our overseas partner schools
.

 

Applicants are to have achieved Criterion 1 AND/OR Criterion 2 to be considered for Direct School Admission.

Criterion 1

Academic Results
Applicants should consistently have scores of at least 75 and above for Mathematics, Science, English Language and Mother Tongue from P4 to P6.


Criterion 2

Besides having excellent academic credentials, potential applicants should show a flair for Science and Mathematics through participation and preferably having won awards in the competitions like the Sony Creative Science Award, Tan Kah Kee Young Inventor Award, the Math Olympiad, Language-based competitions and other similar competitions at national level. Achievements such as medal winners and high distinction award winners in the competitions like the International Competitions for Schools would be favourably considered.



SELECTION PROCESS

1. Aptitude Test cum Interview
Short-listed candidates who meet the criteria will be required to sit for Aptitude Tests. They will be subsequently further short-listed for an interview.

2. Supporting Documents
Applicants may include the following supporting documents:
• Relevant certificates and records of achievements

 


WHEN TO APPLY

You may send in your application form together with all the required supporting documents to FMSS via post or in person during the following period:

• 12 May – 7 July 2008


TRIALS AND INTERVIEW DATES

The information for aptitude test is as follows:
Date                     :  18 July 2008 (Friday)
Time                     :  2.00 – 5.15 pm* 
Reporting Venue :  School General Office
Attire                   :  School Uniform

* Please note that the starting time of the Aptitude Test is brought forward to 2.00 pm instead of 3.00 pm, and the ending time is at 5.15 pm instead of 5.00 pm.  Candidates are required to report 10 minutes before the starting time.

All candidates are required to sit for 1 Math and 1 Science paper for the test.  The conduct of the test is as follows:

Paper 1           Start: 2.00 pm
                      End:  3.30 pm

Paper 2           Start: 3.45 pm
                      End:  5.15 pm

Candidates are given a 15-minute break in between the papers.


All candidates attending the aptitude test are requested to bring along their own calculators and writing materials (i.e. pens, pencils, rulers etc.) for the test as well as their Student Pass for identification purposes. 

Successful candidates from the aptitude tests will be informed of the details of the interview a week after the tests.


SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES

All applicants will be informed of DSA selection results via mail by 29 August 2008.
